Synopsis

The central purpose of this investigation is to explain the relationship between the study of the problems of the history of the Ancient Near East (ANE) in the academic research practices at national universities and research centers and the educational practices at the secondary and university levels, focusing on Comodoro Rivadavia (Chubut) from 1983 to 2020.

We start from the premise that there is a progressive and noticeable disconnect between academic research and educational practice. This is most evident at the secondary level. This paper analyzes the relationship between successive provincial curricula designs in Chubut, Argentine academic production, teacher practices, and textbook production. Our case study addresses at the History program at the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco and the first-year secondary school curriculum in a ‘scope of scales’ related to the respective historical contexts, educational practices, and research practices related to the study of ANE at others Argentine national universities.

Author Biography

Celeste María Crespo, Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco

Associate Professor at ANE History in Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco. Professor (1991) and Bachelor of History (1999) at the local University, continued her Master in Anthropology (UN Córdoba) and Doctorate in History (UCA, Buenos Aires).

She studied Libyan semi-nomadic groups in the framework of their interactions with Egyptian royalty during the New Kingdom under the direction of Dra. Alicia Daneri (UBA-CONICET). Then, she added the perspective of interethnic relations and the identity processes of Libyan chiefs framed in the historical processes of transition from semi-nomadism to definitive settlement in Egyptian territory (1300-700 B.C.). In recent years, she analyzed the study of the ANE in Argentina -academic and educational practices- in a historical and local perspective, directed by Dra. Roxana Flammini (UCA-UNLuján-CONICET).

She has participated in specialized academic meetings in interaction with other national universities and research centers and she has published articles. Within the framework of the UNPSJB-CR, she is a member of the Study Group: States, Borders and Practices in Ancient Societies and Classical Modernity (G.E.E.F.P.S.A and M.C). Res. CDFHCS No. 180/2012 to date.
